Uses of Eye Patch in Lazy Eye (Amblyopia) 1. Strengthens the weaker eye • By covering the stronger eye, the brain is forced to use the weaker (lazy) eye, which helps improve its vision over time.

Prevents permanent vision loss • If left untreated, amblyopia can lead to lifelong poor vision in one eye. Patching helps prevent this.

3. Improves brain-eye coordination • The patch trains the brain to rely on signals from the weaker eye, enhancing visual processing and coordination.

4. Treats eye dominance imbalance • Helps balance the use of both eyes, reducing dependence on the stronger one.

5. Used after surgery or other treatments • Sometimes prescribed after strabismus (crossed eyes) surgery or cataract removal in children to encourage use of the weaker eye.

6. Prepares for binocular vision therapy • Strengthening the weak eye first makes later treatments (like vision therapy to improve depth perception and both eyes working together) more effective.
